Blender Tip: Find Hidden Objects

You open your scene and check the outliner; The object is there but it’s greyed out. You try alt+H to view hidden objects, however that doesn’t work. The ‘eye’ icon is turned on, but the object still isn’t there. So where is it?

Thankfully the solution is quite easy but a little deceiving..

In the outliner, there is a ‘Filter’ tab. Open this menu and you find many toggles. The one we are interested in, is the Viewport. Highlight this and now it will appear next to your objects in the outliner.

Just like the Eye icon is turned on, toggle the Viewport icon and now you will see your object!

Cheers!

In-App-Updates Fixed v4.762

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are all staying healthy amid the wordly events. Our “In-App-Update” server was experiencing an issue with downloads. We have been working to quickly resolve the problem and have released a new version of Cloth Weaver to download (4.761). Unfortunately, this update will require a manual installation. Once installed, it will show that a new version “4.762” is available through an in-App-Update. This version will confirm that in-App-Updates are working again.

To download, please log-in to your Cloth Weaver account or visit the platform you originally downloaded from and navigate to your purchase history.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding as we attend to these errors and work to bring you new features.

Dropping Blender 2.79 Support for Cloth Weaver

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are having a great January! With Blender 2.8 now in a stable release, we are finding that many of the features in the API are quite powerful, faster and more suited to make Cloth Weaver a better product. Many features that we want to implement in Cloth Weaver cannot be achieved in Blender 2.79. Therefore, we are considering dropping support for Blender 2.79 and fully moving forward with Blender 2.8.

Previous surveys that we have sent out indicate that many of our Cloth Weaver users are also switching to Blender 2.8.  We would like to hear your feedback: Do you still use Blender 2.79 or are you planning to upgrade to Blender 2.8? How would you feel if discontinued updates for Blender 2.79?

Below is a link to a Google form. We highly appreciate your time in filling out our brief survey. Thank you!

Blender 2.8 + Cloth Weaver

Hello everyone!

By popular demand, we have just released the first version of Cloth Weaver that will be compatible with Blender 2.8 (CW v4.52)

Please read the following, as there are some important steps needed to update… (even if you plan to continue using Blender 2.79)

In-App updating will not automatically work for this update. Cloth Weaver will download the new version, but you will need to manually enter your Blender config directory and unzip the corresponding Blender compatible version.

Manually download Cloth Weaver from the site you initially purchased on: ClothWeaver.com, Gumroad.com, BlenderMarket.com or Artstation.com

You will receive a ~30MB ZIP folder containing 2 .zip files. One version for Blender 2.79 and another for Blender 2.8

Download this .zip file and unzip the root directory. You will now have 2.79.zip and 2.8.zip on your hard drive. In Blender, remove the current version of Cloth Weaver from user preferences and install the correct Cloth Weaver copy for your version of Blender.

Future Updates

After you have manually updated Cloth Weaver to v4.52 it will resume the regular in-app updates that you have come to expect without manual intervention.

Please keep in mind that Blender 2.8 is still in Beta and subject to change. Cloth Weaver may not be fully compatible until the stable release of Blender 2.8 is available.

[Please note that Cloth Weaver primarily uses Blender’s Cycles engine for materials and renders. It has not been fully optimized to support EEVEE materials]

ENJOY!

Blender Tip: Bake & Export UV Textures

The following will show you how to bake an object’s image texture, materials and lighting into a single image file. Update: the following article uses Blender 2.79b with Cycles Engine.

1) Create a new texture ‘bake-me’ from the UV image editor

2) Select the object you want baked and open the node editor. Add that new texture ‘bake-me’ to the material nodes, make sure it is highlighted (it does not need to be attached to anything).

3) Create a new UVmap group.

4) Enter edit mode to check your object’s UV mapping. As you can see, the UVs must be scaled to fit inside our ‘bake-me’ image.

5) In the UV Image editor with ‘bake-me’ selected, scale the UVs to fit inside the new image.

6) In the render panel, find the ‘Bake’ menu and choose ‘diffuse’ and select ‘color’. (these options will only select the texture data, no lighting. This is useful for characters in game engines. Choose ‘combined’ to bake all lighting and shading data into the image (make sure all necessary lights are turned on). This is useful for online galleries such as SketchFab and other scenarios in which the objects will be viewed without external light sources affecting them.)

7) After baking, you will now see that the texture is baked and fits inside the image ‘bake-me’. Select ‘image’ and choose ‘save-as’ to save the texture to your hard drive.

NOTE: When you are ready to export your object (FBX, OBJ, etc) make sure to select the newly created UVmap group. This tells the object to use this mapping for the texture.
